Diamond Turning

Picture

Nu-Tek's Diamond-Turning facility is staffed with highly trained machinists and engineers operating the latest in high quality equipment. Nu-Tek's machines are equipped with in situ profilometers to reduce cycle time and enable metrology for parts which cannot be measured interferometrically.

Nu-Tek has developed a number of processes for producing high optical quality metal optics, particularly with nickel plated Aluminum suitable for UV and visible applications. We routinely lap flat metal optics in Aluminum, Stainless, Nickel, and Copper to about 18-inch diameter, flatness to about 1/10 wave Peak-to-Valley. Some curved metal optics are also lapped to an optical finish. Commonly, we will diamond turn metal parts up to about 18-inch diameter, yielding a 20-60 Angstrom RMS finish for smaller pieces with surface roughness degrading somewhat with overall size and figure. While the finish is often adequate right off the machine, it is common for us to post-polish the parts to further improve surface roughness and figure.
